Since the line’s inception, the Fuji ‘X’ series has maintained a level of notoriety and cult classic-ness that would leave a fame hungry D-lister green with envy, and other camera manufacturers also. One of the reasons we love them so much is that Fuji listens.

Fuji seems to understand that we like that type of design only when paired with high functionality and quality, and possibly more importantly, they get customer support. They continually release new firmware updates for their lenses and cameras, responding to desires written on the minds of owners. And these aren’t just minor tweaks you’d have to scour the bowels of an operating system to notice, they are usually rather major updates that breath new functionality and life into your gear, extending their use and increasing the value. They’ve now released more with firmware updates for 5 of their cameras and 4 lenses.

The lenses that have some more support all actually have the same support, in the form of improved optical image stabilizer function – a welcome change of course – and those lenses are:

▪ XF10-24mmF4 R OIS firmware version 1.01
▪ XF18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS firmware version 3.12
▪ XF18-135mmF3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR firmware version 1.01
▪ XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 R LM OIS firmware version 1.12

The ever impressive and wanted X100s and X100S Black have both been updated to Version 1.20 firmware, which sees the optional wide and tele-conversion lens menu options altered so you can choose to disable conversion lens use or configure for the different lenses from the same menu, and each camera will show a bright frame in the OVF that corresponds to the FOV when using a tele-conversion lens.

On that list is the Fuji X-T1 and X-T1 Graphite, which get complimentary updates to firmware 3.10, and essentially the same three major updates on each. There was an issue with the Fujifilm PC autosave that would cause it to stop working then the LCD was off, and that’s been sorted, and when the cameras are set to PC Shoot Fixed USB transfer, the camera will warn the user the images will not be saved to the internal card, and that the camera will not shut down if turned off or a lens is removed without connecting a USB cable. Maybe more useful to most would be the fact that non-TTL strobes will now fire even when the setting is on mechanical+electronic.

Lastly, for cameras, there’s an update for the Fuji S1, but it’s relatively minor as this firmware version 1.02 just gives an improvement to sharpness while shooting in burst mode.

You can find all the firmware updates here, and instructions on how to install them.
